Texas Rangers now on a map of American League playoff contenders.

The Texas Rangers are 62 games into what was supposed to be a lost season. Instead, they’re easy to find on a map of American League playoff contenders.

Admit it — you’re confused. You figured by mid-June you would be safe to make vacation plans without having to work around the Texas Rangers’ home schedule. But now you’re sitting there trying to figure out if you should really go out of town Fourth of July weekend or venture out to Globe Life Ballpark in Arlington to see the Rangers host the Angels.

In April this team looked dead. Three-fifths of the expected Opening Day rotation was on the disabled list (Yu Darvish, Martin Perez, Derek Holland). Heck, make it four with Matt Harrison, who some aren’t convinced will ever pitch in the Majors again. Prince Fielder was coming off back surgery. Shin-Soo Choo looked like a player in decline late last season and didn’t exactly set the world on fire to start the season. Rougned Odor’s play prompted you to consider changing the pronunciation of his last name. Even the young players that started well, like Ryan Rua and Kyle Blanks, found their way to the disabled list. It looked like first–year manager Jeff Banister had inherited an absolute mess.
